35th Reunion - many there, many MIA!

The 35th LPHS reunion was so much fun and in unexpected ways! I went to the Friday night informal gathering at the "Taste of Roselle" (August 1st) and the dinner at MillRose Inn on Saturday night.

I stayed at my long-time friend Donna Warnimont's house. She went with me on Friday night, but sent me out on Saturday night without her! (I complained, "How can I continue to ruin your reputation if you won't go out with me!" - to no avail. I settled for picking up some White Castle burgers on the way home and we chatted when I got back to her home a little after midnight.)

It was interesting to talk to Teresa (Terri) Shallcross about her volunteer work in Romania, and why she sadly had to leave it...that April Pate and I still have much in common - not just having been to St. Walter's grade school, and how Sue Rakowski's bob hairstyle keeps coming back in style (what a trendsetter she was and is). Funny that the St. Walter's gang talked about the nuns and uniforms...Terri recalls many details; I remember only a little. Coincidence? I think not.

Mary McCoy developed a quiz - what can I say? It's one thing not to know the answers, but even the questions were unfamiliar to me! (What did SOS stand for?) There was a group of guys who knew that SQSH was the acronym for detention (John Boone and Don Brauch apparently attended rather frequently). Perhaps Mary will post the entire quiz and answers here.

Who knew about Robin Abrams, and that he uses the name "Rob Lee" for his award-winning Atlanta radio program; it's not due to the witness protection program as I suspected! Many thanks to those who spent so many hours on the planning (Brian, Mary, Robin, Mike, Jacqui, Tom) (who am I forgetting, Brian?). I missed so many people, and hope that they come to the next reunion: Debby Mikota, Louie Spizzirri, Melissa GaNung, etc. In the meantime, I've established new links to many people...I see spontaneous reunions happening in the intervening years!

This is the first time I have created a blog. I've never seen much of a personal need...but this seemed fitting! I hope others jump in and post their thoughts, thanks, and remembrances.

Thanks Barb for creating this Blog!

Mark Knapp also assisted with our Reunion. Also, I enlisted the wives of Mike Nehf, Tom Miskell and Mark Knapp (and my girlfriend)to provide the registration table assistance.

1.What did we give to Lake Park as our class gift?
2.Where is tobacco road?
3.How many mods were there during our Senior year?
4.Who was our Homecoming Queen our Senior Year?
5.Who crowned our Homecoming Queen our Senior Year?
6.Who was the “milkshake lady”?
7.What was our theme for Senior Prom?
8.Who was our Prom Queen?
9.Where did each page of a five-part form go?
10.What was a half-shower?
11.What does RP mean?
12.What does S.O.S mean?
13.What does S.Q.S.H mean?
14.Who was our Class speaker at graduation?

Barb, Brian and everyone else that helped organize the reunion -- thanks for your work! I'm very sorry I had to miss it, but was on a long planned family vacation.

I live in Arlington Virginia now and work in Washington DC doing research and advocacy with a public affairs firm. I also write a weekly column on politics for the Washington Times and blog about elections at The Weekly Standard. Some might say I've become part of the "vast right wing conspiracy."

I hear from a few of our classmates from time to time (I'm on Terri Shallcross's email list, which is great. Go Cubs). But reading this brings back a lot of wonderful memories -- and frankly some things I forgot!

Mary McCoy's trivia test reinforced that point.
(By the way Mary, I think you still need to sign my Yearbook).

Anyway, I hope many of you contribute to this blog so we can catch up. If anyone wants to reach me, my email is gary.andres@dutkoworldwide.com.

Best to all of you!
